Isle of Wight About the Island
The Island is situated a few miles off the coast of Southern England opposite the port of Portsmouth, Hampshire and is the smallest county in the UK
It is easy to get to there from the mainland by passenger, or car ferry
There is also a passenger service by Hovercraft
It has a history from the days of the Dinosaurs to the present day
It was even a Favourite place of Queen Victoria, and Prince Albert, who built Osbourne House, near Cowes, the famous yachting town
The house still exists, and is open to the public
Among other famous people, the poet Tennison, and the Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, probably the worlds first woman portrait photographer, also lived on the island
Her house, Dimbola Lodge, still survives and should be visited by any serious photographer to view her photographs, and other photo related subjects
There is something of interest for all tastes in the 23 x 13 mile island
Gardens, Roman villas, Historic Houses, beaches, pleasure parks, cliff top & country walks, golf Courses, Dinosaur remains and much more
Holiday accommodation ranges from top class hotels, self catering establishments, and caravans
It is a paradise for both children and photographers, although some people may say that they are one and the same. Surely this proves that photography keeps you young
On the following pages are some of my photographs. These will be added to from time to time, so please return occasionally to this site. Thank you
