Morton Manor History
Near Brading
Morton. Anglo Saxon "by the water" as in near Brading Harbour
The Manor House is situated about 1 mile from the centre of Brading
The original house was built about 1249
Rebuilt in 1680
Refurbished during the Georgian period, it still has the most beautiful furnishings, including a very old sofa with curious movable sides. To find out why, you will have to visit the Manor
The gardens show many years of hard work
There are displays of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias, and Magnolias
During the summer a riot of colour is produced by the rose garden
There is also a vineyard
Unfortunatly, I have read (Sept 2005), that the Vineyard will have to close due to too much red tape, and other modern restrictions on our liberty
