Island Railway
Electric train, painted with Dinosaurs, and other island scenes, leaving
 Ryde Station August 2005
Ex London Transport Underground stock, c 1928/1929, is used  due to it's small size
From about 1862 to 1967 normal size steam trains ran on the Island's Railways, but by 1967 the only track left was the present run from
Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin
This section was electrified, but Ryde tunnel  was prone to flooding in bad weather
Not a very good thing for a third rail system
To overcome this problem the floor of the tunnel was raised
This meant that smaller trains had to be run resulting in ex London Underground stock being used
