Sandown Zoo (Tiger Sanctuary)
The zoo is on the remains of a Fort built by Lord Palmerston in 1860 as defense
against the French
During World 2 the grounds were used as part of the Pluto pipeline
This pipeline sent oil under the English Channel to France to supply fuel for the Allies on D Day
The Zoo is now the home of poisonous snakes and big cats
The Jack Corney Tiger Sanctuary is reputed to be the best in Europe
Here Tigers are bred and cared for by a dedicated team of animal experts
There are also Leopards, Jaguars, and Black Panthers
Remember that Tigers may well be extinct in a few years
A good, and safe for visitors, display of snakes, and spiders
