Ventnor
A Victorian spa town. It is one of the sunniest towns on the Island. Unfortunately, My photographs were taken in September on one of the rainiest days of the year. Note the colour of the sea in the background
It is built down the cliff face on a series of terraces with the roads winding down past the cascade
It has a good selection of shops, and some interesting antique, and curio shops
A very fine shingle and sand beach suitable for both sunbathing, and swimming
There are palm trees growing that are about 100 years old in the Botanical Gardens
It is close to the village of Bonchurch that still boasts a working Smithy, and also nearby is St Lawrence with it's 12 century church
Webmasters Note.
Ventnor is a devil of a place to leave as you have to drive up some very steep, and twisty roads
I can assure you that this in not nice during the rush hour or August holidays
I feel sorry for the horses before the invention of the motor car
Certainly not one of my favourite towns
